The Kigali Genocide Memorial

The Kigali Genocide Memorial is located in Kigali city in Gisozi. It honors the memory of more than one million Rwandans killed during the 1994 genocide against the Tutsis and is also the final resting place for more than 250,000 victims. There is a visitor centre on site for people wishing to understand the events which led up to 1994 genocide against the Tutsis.

Ntarama genocide memorial

Ntarama genocide memorial is located in Kicuriro district near Nyamata district. Ntarama memorial was a Catholic Church before 1994 genocide against the Tutsis in Rwanda and now a memorial site where 5000 people were massacred during the genocide against the Tutsis.

Bisesero Genocide memorial

Bisesero Genocide memorial is located in the Western Province of Rwanda in Karongi district. This memorial is also known as memorial of resistance in honor of its population which unusually offered some defense against the Interahamwe during the genocide against the Tutsis. 40,000 people died around Bisesero further to the genocide against the Tutsis in Rwanda.

Campaign against Genocide Museum

Campaign against Genocide Museum is located in the Parliamentary building. The latest was once known as Conseil National de Development (CND) which hosted the Rwandan Patriotic Front politicians and 600 man protection force as they were preparing for the installation of broad based transitional Government and the National Transitional Assembly post 1994 Genocide against the Tutsis in Rwanda.

The Natural History Museum

The Natural History Museum known as Richard Kandt Museum is located in Kigali city in Nyarugenge District. It illustrates Rwandan life as it was in its social, economic, and political( monarchism) aspects before, and also during the colonial period under the Germany rule. This museum includes Richard Kandt life and his deeds in Rwanda. Another attractive part of the museum is the history of Kigali ; Kigali before and during colonial time and, its naissance as capital city of Rwanda.

The presidential palace museum

The presidential palace museum is located in Kigali city and is the former state house of former presidents Pasteur Bizimungu and late Juvenal
Habyarimana. This is also where lie the remains of late Juvenal Habyarimana presidential plane FALCON 50 which was taken down on 6th April 1994.

King palace museum

King palace museum is located in South Province in Nyanza District. This was the former residence of King Mutara Rudahigwa. This royal palace which was built in a traditional way, illustrates the traditional monarchy of Rwanda in detail.

Natural Arts Gallery

Located in South Province in Nyanza District, the national art gallery showcases contemporary artworks and creativity of Rwandans. This museum was also initially built for residence of King Mutara Rudahigwa but he passed away having not lived in that house.

Ethnographic museum

Also located in South Province in Huye District, the ethnographic museum was built in 1987 and has the finest ethnographic collections, artistic, historical and archaeological artifacts which are accompanied by visual aids, giving visitors a rich insight into the Rwandan culture.

The National liberation museum park

The National liberation museum park is located in North Province in Gicumbi District in Mulindi. This museum illustrates the history of the Rwandan Liberation struggle which brought an end to the Genocide against the Tutsis in 1994. As part of the museum is the bunker which protected the then chairman of the high command who is now the president of the Republic of Rwanda, H.E Paul Kagame.

Kinigi Iby’iwacu cultural village

Iby’iwacu cultural village is located in the Northern Province of Rwanda in Musanze district in the out skirts of Volcano National Park. The cultural village offers community walks to visitors whereby they are engaged and can watch the different cultural behaviors of Rwandan. Visitors have also the opportunity to enjoy the traditional Intore dancers.
